About Theis
I believe in creating a safe, non-judgemental environment for my work with clients. I believe it is important for the therapist to try to be 100 % present with the client; whatever they are going through or have gone through and for the client to feel safe, validated and authentically listened to, in that space.
My approach is to work in a collaborative and gradual manner, moving at a pace that feels safe for the client.
Treatment Approaches
I believe it is important to tailor the therapy used in sessions to the issues faced by the client, balancing this with the client’s preference. My goal is that me and the client co-create the session and jointly decide the therapeutic direction going forth.
I have a strong interest in Third Wave Psychotherapies including Acceptance and Commitment therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Mindfulness based interventions (MBIs). I am trained in Schema Therapy; I have an interest in complex childhood trauma and have completed training with the Blue Knot Foundation, a trauma focused organization to help inform my clinical practice. I am currently training in the Conversational Model of Contemporary Psychodynamic Psychotherapy with the Australian and New Zealand Association of Psychotherapy (ANZAP).
